Before you start work

A job advert is not permission to work. D-2 and D-4 students generally need their school's confirmation and immigration permission before starting a part-time job.

  1. 1. Ask your international office

Check your visa subtype, course, attendance or grades, language evidence and any waiting period. Your permitted hours depend on your circumstances.

  2. 2. Confirm the actual job

Ask about duties, workplace, pay, breaks and weekly hours. Get a written contract and the employer documents your school requests.

  3. 3. Obtain permission first

Follow your school's application route and wait for approval. Check the procedure again before changing your workplace or duties.

Private tutoring, delivery and some other activities are restricted. Teaching vacancies on our other board should not be assumed suitable for a student visa.
